Cultural Heritage in a Changing Climate. The Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage and Arts Council Norway will host the 7th forum of the Baltic Region Heritage Committee (BRHC).

Climate change is a threat to cultural heritage. We live in a time with rapid changes; both environmentally and politically. All the countries in the Baltic Region have signed the Paris Agreement and committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This commitment means that we must act immediately to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with 50 percent by 2030. Oslo Forum 2021 aims to mobilize the cultural heritage sector to action.


Farewell to „Sołdek”!

On Saturday, 17 October 2020, "Sołdek" museum-ship – a branch of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk – moored at the quay at Ołowianka Island, will be towed to the J. Piłsudski Remontowa Shipyard S.A. in Gdańsk for a scheduled renovation. The ship will return in all its glory and ready to have a new permanent exhibition installed in its cargo holds. These activities are possible thanks to the project "2 Ships - Common Sea. Sołdek and Vityaz: Maritime Heritage of Poland and Russia" and funding by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

For some people, this is a shameful Socialist Realism episode, others perceive it as a community of artists working together in a particular place, which was Sopot, while some consider it to be Colouristic Modernism of the 1950s. The "Sopot School" term is a controversial and dubious subject, especially considering the fact that members of this artistic circle chose diverse directions for their further development. "A view of the sea" is an exhibition dedicated to the maritime subject in the works of a group of artists deriving from the so-called "Sopot School" circle.

The music has accompanied people from the very beginning and sculpture is probably the oldest artwork. The exhibitions shows the wooden sculptures chosen from the collection "The Musicians of the world" which includes about 400 artefacts from most of the world – from Ecuador to Indonesia. The main theme are wooden characters of musicians playing the unusual instruments.
