A real treat for maritime art lovers - from May 29 the exhibition: "Meeting the Sea" - the 7th from the series "Polish Artists about the Sea" is on show in Granaries at Olowianka Island. The exhibition presents works of the founder of the Polish Marine Painters Circle - Włodzimierz Nałęcz as well as its most outstanding members: Wojciech Weiss, Franciszek Szwoch, Wacław Zaboklicki and Emil Lindeman.

From 30th April you can see phenomenal wild nature photographs in the Polish Maritime Museum. The international showcase is made up of pictures which won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2007 award organised by the BBC Wildlife Magazine and Natural History Museum in London.

Michał Antoni Leszczyński, better known in the Atlantic region as Michael Lester, had a life as colourful and full of contrasts as his pictures, filled with vivid tropical colours and unbelievable sunshine. He was a patriot in exile, an artist and a sailor. His hands were skilful at mending the rough canvas in his sailboat and equally skilful at painting on canvas.

Carl Linnaeus and Michel Östlund together make a duo which provided the basis for the Nature Morte Exhibition which will be inaugurated on the 25th of October in the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk. The exhibition is one of the events celebrating Linnaeus’ 300th birthday and has been organised by the Consulate General of Sweden in Gdansk.

Heroic admirals, fierce wars conducted with Sweden and memorable battles for free sailing on the Baltic Sea are the main topic of our new exhibition entitled "For the freedom of sailing. The Dutch Admiralty fighting for access to the Baltic Sea in the 16th–17th centuries". The exhibition is available in the Granary Hall (Spichlerze) on Ołowianka Island from the 20th of June.

Jan Stanisławski was a leading artist representing Art Nouveau in Polish painting; he was also a great teacher for a whole generation of artists who had a significant impact on developments in Polish painting in the first part of the 20th century. This year it has been one hundred years since his death.

For every grown man and boy the toy railway is one toy which they have always dreamed about and which they will remember all their life. They almost certainly remember emotions which accompanied unpacking the box found on Christmas, laying convoluted tracks, putting locomotive and wagons in correct order and making all the machinery move around with characteristic whistling sounds.
