The Sea of Antoni Suchanek

The sea enchanted in art - this is how the exhibition "The Sea of Antoni Suchanek", which can be seen at the Polish Maritime Museum, could be briefly paraphrased. It is the eighth exhibition of the series "Polish Artists on the Sea". The exhibition is fully composed of the works from our marine art collection.

The sea in the Polish painting is a theme popular with Polish artists. Antoni Suchanek, one of the most eminent seascapists, was not indifferent to the nature, the power, and the mysterious character of the sea. The exhibition presents the paintings, graphics, and drawings created by the artist from 1930s till his death. The pictures include views of Polish shipyards and landscapes of Gdańsk and Gdynia. Some of the pictures, with personal dedications, are drawings and watercolours made for private use.

The exhibition is one of the events of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Polish Maritime Museum in Gdańsk.
